GRACIA IGLESIAS (English)

Spanish writer, storyteller and actress.  She has published five poetry books: “Sospecho que soy humo” [I suspect I am of smoke] (2002), “Aunque cubras mi cuerpo de cerezas” [Though you cover my body with cherries] (2004) (both awarded with significant literary prizes), “Distintos métodos para hacer elefantes” [Different methods to make elephants] (2006),“Gritos verticales" [Vertical cries] (2010) and “La cicatriz” [The scar] (2017). She is the author of the poems included in the folder of etchings by Luis Feito “Tiempo de luz” [Time of light] (2004).

Among other prizes, Gracia Iglesias has been awarded with the poetry prizes “Gloria Fuertes”, National “Miguel Hernández” and “Luna de Aire” (for children’s poetry), and she was a finalist for the prizes “Vicente Presa” of poetry and “Hucha de Oro” of narrative. Some of her poems, narrative texts, and art criticism essays have been translated into English, Brazilian, Japanese, Italian, Catalan, Galician and Basque, and her name is included in more than fifty anthology books in Spain, Italy, England, Mexico and Japan.

In the field of children's literature she has published the poetry book titled “El mundo de Casimiro. Memorias de un saltamontes” [Casimiro’s World. Memoirs of a grasshopper] (awarded in 2010 by the CEPLI –Centre for Studies and Promotion of Reading and Children's Literature–); the novel “El Tren de los Ronquidos” [The train of snoring] (2010); the picture books “Mono Lolo” [Monkey Lolo] (2008), “Los Meagrada” [The Ilikers] (2011. Also Italian version), “Huevos y patatas” [Eggs and potatoes] (2012), “El dragón de la chimenea” [The dragon of the fireplace] (2014), “Subasta extraordinaria” [Extraordinary auction] (2014), “Felipe tiene gripe” [Felipe has the flu] (2015), “Moustache” (2015), “El Hilo” [The thread] (2016), “¡Qué golazo!” [What a great goal!] (2016), “El tesoro de Isla Cocina” [The treasure of Kitchen Island] (2016), “Karim y las cebras!” [Karim and the zebras] (2017), “Marcelina en la cocina” [Marcelina in the kitchen] (2017), “La extraña visita” [The strange visit] (2017), “No puedo dormir” [I can’t sleep] (2018), “Por una mosca de nada” [For just a little fly] (2018), “Imagodonte” [Imagodon] (2018), “Un día en la vida de Yayra” [A day in the life of Yayra] and “Yuri ha escrito una carta para ti” [Yuri has written you a letter] (Collection "this is not a tale" (2018), “Moncho Rabioso” [Rabid Moncho] (2019), “¡Qué jaleo, Timoteo!” [What a fuss, Timothy!] (2019), “Pepita Sarmiento” (2019), “Me pica el ombligo” [My navel itches] (2019) and “El rombo Feroz” [Fierce rhombus]; and more than a hundred texts (tales, poems and small theatre plays) included in teaching methods for Kindergarden (“Papelillos”, “El Jardín de las Letras” [The garden of the letters], “Popete”, “Pompas de jabón” [Soap bubbles], “Palomitas de maíz” [Popcorn]) and “Nuevo Jardín de las Letras” [New garden of the letters], published by the publishing house Algaida. Coming soon more children’s books will be published by other important Spanish publishing houses.

Her poetry is linked to her interest in other artistic expressions like painting and theatre, what leads her, since 1999, to participate in performances, workshops, storytelling and other activities where different aesthetic codes converge. And since 2008 she combines her work in these areas with her profession as storyteller and actress. She has performed in many different institutions of Spain, England, Austria, Germany and Iceland.


She is always willing to go and tell stories or recite poems wherever she is called, either schools, libraries or public squares because is something that she loves to do.
